Brass Armilliary Sphere
A beautiful brass Armillary Sphere showing the Earth at its centre surrounded by rings which represent the great circles of the heavens etched with signs of the zodiac. Armillary spheres were widely used during the 17th and 18th centuries in scientific debate over the relative merits of what was at the centre of the universe – the Sun or the Earth.

With the Earth as centre, an armillary sphere is known as Ptolemaic. With the Sun as centre, it is known as Copernican.
